The Charleston Heights Arts Center presents a wide diversity of programs and classes. Programs of interest include guest artist series, local artists, big band dances, Summer Youth Dance Camp and the Rainbow Company performances. Classes of interest include dance, drama and music. The Center supports other division units and city departments including but not limited to the Reed Whipple Cultural Center, the West Las Vegas Arts Center, the East Las Vegas Senior/Community Center, the Senior Division, Art Reach, the Rainbow Company Youth Theatre, Visual Arts, Detention and Enforcement, Human Resources and the City Council. This support comes in the form of providing program information, ticket sales, facility usage, class registration and customer service. The Center regularly provides the opportunity for local community groups to utilize center space for their arts and community meetings and programs. Local groups are provided with facility space, equipment and a supportive center staff. The Ethnic Express Folk Dancers, the Las Vegas Bridge World, the Southern Nevada Contra Dancers and the Easy Street Neighborhood homeowners are among the many local groups utilizing the center. The Rainbow Company The Rainbow Company has been producing award-winning family theatre for more than 28 years. The Company produces five fully mounted in-house plays each year. One of these productions is designed to tour to elementary schools throughout the valley. Open auditions are held for each show, and age appropriate casting is practiced. The Rainbow Company offers classes for young people ages 10-18. Acting, set and costume design, stage management and make-up are only a sample of the full spectrum of classes available during the year. Serious theatre students can audition for the Student Ensemble. This select group of young people ages 10-18 do it all. They take classes and participate in every production. They stage manage, act, construct sets, props and costumes, run lights, run sound, and work backstage and front of house, although not all at the same time. While Rainbow Company calls the Reed Whipple Cultural Center home; classes are also offered at Charleston Heights Arts Center. Productions are split between the two centers; three at Reed Whipple and two at Charleston Heights.
