The Reed Whipple Cultural Center is located in the “heart” of the downtown area. The center houses two (2) theatres, an art gallery, a loom weaving room ceramics studio, a dance studio, two (2) rehearsal rooms, a conference room and an arts and crafts studio. The Center serves over 75,000 patrons each year. The center is home to the Rainbow Company Theatre, the Las Vegas Youth Orchestras, the Las Vegas Wind Quintet, the Dynamic Trombone Quartet and Brass Roots. The center provides training and nurturing to the amateur or experienced artist through its 150 different classes in the visual and performing arts for pre-schoolers through adults. Special classes are scheduled for students who are being home schooled and may not have the opportunity to experience the arts. Programs include: the Young Artists Recital Series, Search for Talent, Kwanzaa, Guest Artists series, Tumblewords literature series and concert series. The Rainbow Company The Rainbow Company has been producing award-winning family theatre for more than 28 years. The Company produces five fully mounted in-house plays each year. One of these productions is designed to tour to elementary schools throughout the valley. Open auditions are held for each show, and age appropriate casting is practiced. The Rainbow Company offers classes for young people ages 10-18. Acting, set and costume design, stage management and make-up are only a sample of the full spectrum of classes available during the year. Serious theatre students can audition for the Student Ensemble. This select group of young people ages 10-18 do it all. They take classes and participate in every production. They stage manage, act, construct sets, props and costumes, run lights, run sound, and work backstage and front of house, although not all at the same time. Rainbow Company calls the Reed Whipple Cultural Center home; classes are also offered at Charleston Heights Arts Center. Productions are split between the two centers; three at Reed Whipple and two at Charleston Heights.
