Calisto (Juan Diego Botto) is a young knight who's fallen madly in love with Melibea (Penelope Cruz). Failing to win her, Calisto is goaded by his servant to seek the help of the sorceress Celestina. Another servant, Parmeno, tries to dissuade his master from resorting to the witch, but to no avail. Determined to woo Melibea, the lovesick Romeo pays the old woman to work her magic, touching off a string of events with dire consequences.
