Company Youth Theatre The Rainbow Company Youth Theatre is a nationally recognized theatre education program. Each year, Rainbow Company produces a four-show season of family oriented theatre. Ticket prices are $3 for children age 12 and under, $5 for seniors and teenagers, and $7 for adults. Season ticket packages are also available. Casting for Rainbow Company shows is age appropriate-adults in adult roles and children in children's roles-and all auditions are open to members of the community. (There is always a need for adults to audition!)
Classes are offered year-round for young people ages 4-18 at Charleston Heights Arts Center. Those who are 4-12 years of age concentrate on improvisation, acting and creative drama. Older, more experienced, young people explore classes in all aspects of theatre. The Spring Break Drama Workshop is one of the most popular programs. Students enjoy five full days of drama, culminating in a performance on the main stage at Charleston Heights. During the summer, there is a drama conservatory for ages 8-11 and ages 12-16.
The Student Ensemble program offers professional-level training to young people, ages 10-18, in all areas of theatre. This nationally recognized program is a huge time commitment; but for the serious theatre student, it is ideal. Tuesday night meetings and classes are mandatory. The Ensemble is for students who want to learn all aspects of theatre, and all students are required to work on all productions, either backstage or on stage.
A touring show goes out into the schools on Tuesdays and Thursdays, February-May, to perform for upward of 14,000 young people each year. For the past 17 years, the show has been an original musical production focusing on Nevada history.
